The Art of "Sommerso" - A Masterpiece of Murano Craftsmanship

The Sommerso technique, meaning "submerged", is one of the most iconic and sophisticated technique in the history of Venetian glassmaking. Developed by Murano’s master glassmakers in the 1930s and later perfected through significant innovations at the Venini furnace, this technique creates stunning layers of glass where one color is encased within another, resulting in a unique sense of depth.

A fundamental contribution to this stylistic evolution came from Antonio Da Ros, artistic director of the Gino Cenedese glassworks since 1959. Thanks to his vision, the sommerso technique reached new heights of modernity, introducing sculptural forms and bold color combinations that have made these vases true objects of desire for collectors worldwide.
