Glass Aquarium – “Sommerso” Sculptures
Discover our exclusive collection of Murano glass aquariums, sculptures where colorful fish and delicate bubbles are preserved within solid glass blocks.
The mesmerizing effect of these artworks is achieved through the Sommerso (literally "submerged") technique, a sophisticated Murano glassmaking process invented in the 1930s. To create a Sommerso aquarium, the master glassmaker first creates the little glass fish (or any other marine animal), then it is covered with multiple layers of molten glass. While the glass is still glowing hot, the master shapes the block, often into a rectangular, oval, or "bag" shape.
Each aquarium is handmade in Murano, Italy, and is delivered with the Original Murano Glass OMG® Certificate of Authenticity. Equipped with our anti-counterfeiting mark, your purchase is a guaranteed investment in genuine Venetian craftsmanship.
The most important sculptures from this collection are signed by the most renowned Master Glassmakers of Murano.
